18 Fantastic Baby-Led Weaning Recipes, Meal Plans & More!
June 9, 2017

We had such a great response to the first article I wrote "13 Fantastic BLW Recipes" that I have been building a new list of my favourite recipes ever since. We all fight the same battle: keeping your child engaged, interested and excited about exploring their food; and as I have now learned - keeping ourselves interested in what we're cooking and eating too!

Here are my absolute favourites from the past 3 months, along with some advice on first foods, nutrition and BLW hacks!

Please share and like this post, and comment with your favorite BLW recipe!

#1 Thai Salmon Bites

So that your LO enjoys the same food as you (making your life easier!) it's important to introduce them to the flavours you eat early on. We love Thai food, and Jessica's trick here for keeping the salmon together made introducing these flavours easy!

"There is no need to wait until your baby is 12 months to offer him/her fish. In fact, it’s a good idea to offer fish to babies from 6 to 12 months because it’s packed with good fats, iron and zinc. The problem with fish is that it usually doesn’t hold together very well. It’s dry and falls apart easily when babies handle it."

#2 Pumpkin & Chickpea Keralan Curry

Healthy, simple and delicious...my favourite 3 words! Chef Tom Redwood has a great range of vegetarian recipes on his vegetable led weaning blog.

"This is one of our pouch recipes scaled up and prepared to be a delicious midweek family dinner"

#3 Granola Crust Tarts with Yoghurt and Berries

We always find it tricky coming up with something different to try for breakfast...these may take a bit of effort, but well worth it if you're bored of the same old, same old...

"Liven up breakfast time with this recipe for Granola Crust Tart with Yogurt & Berries. Delicious AND healthy!"

Ciara's fab website is brimming with great recipes and ideas for both BLW and traditional weaning parents.

They look great, taste great and are much easier to make than you would think - no wonder these are becoming a staple in most BLW households! This recipe courtesy of Hello Deborah where you will find a whole range of great ideas for fillings - thank you!

#8 Very Italian Courgette Pasta

From blogger Mummy To Logan. So simple, quick and easy, but an absolute classic!

"The main reason behind cooking this dish was because I’d always get some sort of courgette pasta thing frozen from a ready meal, which was ok but I knew that I’d be able to make it myself for a fraction of the price, and it’s great for BLW too!. And another reason is, I’m trying to eat a bit better, not only for myself but for my 5-week old baby foetus!"

#9 Cheese & Onion Muffins

Couldn't be easier, but packed full of flavour! The ever-practical Devon Mama has some other great recipes on her site - Lizzie loves her blueberry & banana oat bakes too!

"We’ve tried scrambled egg a few times but it never makes it beyond the hand-squish. I wanted something a little more solid to give him and an omelette would spread itself too thinly in our huge pans"

#10 Baby's Papaya Shrikhand

We've only just discovered Zainab Ahmed's flavour-led weaning (a bit slow on the up-take I know)! I love the way she boosts the flavour of everyday ingredients with spices I wouldn't usually think to use. Turns out they're super healthy too!

"It’s a great tropical, fresh fruity yogurt snack or dessert that goes really well with the warm weather at the moment, and also doubles up as a wonderful Eid dessert for babies"

#13 Fun & Healthy Pizzas

Theresa from Happy Tums recently reviewed Sweetpea Pantry' healthy pizza mix...so we thought we'd give it a go too. It was great fun to let the kids get involved 'making' the dough and the pizzas were simply delicious!

"I love its ease of use, the packaging and instructions, the contents and the final product! The pizza base was delicious"

#14 Weekly Meal Plan

Something I always intend to do, but usually don't get round to and end up winging it in a mild panic!

Kimberly writes a great blog at oddhogg.com and regularly shares her meal plans which I find a really helpful source of much needed inspiration! Click the image for Kim's plan from 8th May.

#15 First Foods Nutrition Guide

If, like me, you enjoy just winging it and inventing new recipes as you go along, this guide to first foods nutrition from Little Gourmet Baby is invaluable to make sure you're including all of the goodness your LO needs.

"Learn about the nutrients to supplement over the first year, how to create balanced meals and how much and often baby should be eating." Click the image for the full article.

#16 Some Great Finger Foods for Getting Started

For those of you just starting out on your BLW journey and wondering which foods lend themselves best to picked up, chewed on, and then most likely thrown away - welcome on board! One of our favourite blogs is by Jo Wiggins at miraclemax.co.uk. She has a great guide to getting started with BLW on her blog. To read it - click the picture!

Because who doesn't love a life hack these days??

"none of us like the idea of being tied to the oven, so we asked our endlessly inventive MOLOs how they make BLW work for them"

#18 And Finally...If you're looking for a BLW alternative?

The Chiappas, a family of 3 Italian sisters who have grown up in Wales and recently released a book 'Baby At The Table' on how to wean the Italian way. If you're still not convinced about BLW, or you're just curious about how other countries do things, this is well worth a read.
