Baby-Led Weaning Recipe: Fruity French Toast Rolls

These delicious, fruity French toast rolls are easy to make and great for young babies to hold and practise their self-feeding skills.

Ingredients

  • 1 slice of white bread, crusts removed
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese or yoghurt
  • 1 strawberry (or any fruit), cut into very small chunks
  • 1 medium egg, whisked
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Method

  1. Use a rolling pin to roll the bread thinly to ~2 mm thickness.
  2. Spread the cream cheese or yoghurt evenly over the bread and place the diced fruit along one short end.
  3. Roll the bread into a tight tube, then soak it in the whisked egg for 2 minutes on each side.
  4. Heat the coconut oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the roll for about 5 minutes, turning often, until all sides are golden.
  5. Serve once cooled.

  • Use very fine fruit pieces and avoid hard or round choking hazards.
