Baby-Led Weaning Recipe: Pear, Pea and Brussel Sprout Pasta

This simple, nutrient-packed pasta is perfect for little ones exploring new textures and flavours! Sweet pear balances the earthy Brussels sprouts and fresh peas, creating a naturally sweet, veggie-filled dish that’s both gentle on tiny taste buds and satisfying for the whole family.

Packed with fibre, vitamins C and K, and plant-based protein, this recipe helps support your baby’s digestion and immune system as they learn to self-feed. It’s quick to make, freezer-friendly, and ideal for baby-led weaning — soft, flavourful, and easy to grasp with little hands. Blend ingredients more thoroughly for early eaters or leave lumpier for more confident munchers — either way, it’s a wholesome, colourful meal your baby will love.

  • Prep time:
  • Cook time:
  • Makes:4 portions

Ingredients

  • 350g dried fusilli pasta
  • 3 pears, peeled, cored and quartered
  • 300g frozen peas
  • A small handful of Brussels sprouts (about 7)
  • Parmesan cheese to serve (optional)

Method

  1. In a saucepan of boiling water, cook the dried pasta according to the packet instructions.
  2. While the pasta cooks, steam the pears, peas and Brussels sprouts.
  3. After 4 minutes, transfer the pears and peas to a food processor and allow the Brussels sprouts to continue steaming.
  4. Once the pasta is cooked, drain and reserve, then remove the Brussels sprouts from the steamer and transfer to the food processor.
  5. Blend the pear, peas and Brussels sprouts in the food processor to create a lumpy sauce (blend smoother for early eaters if preferred).
  6. Stir the sauce through the pasta.
  7. Serve once cooled with a sprinkling of cheese, if desired.

Tips

  • For baby-led weaning, ensure pasta and sauce are soft enough to squish between fingers.
  • Cool to a safe temperature before serving.
  • Skip the cheese if avoiding dairy or salt for younger babies.
